If I compare the position Kicking Off was in at this time last year to the Kicking Off that exists today it has been an amazing year.
This time last year the first ever Ghana team was trying to figure out what Kicking Off is and what it does when it runs a tournament, all nervously going through the amazingly difficult Ghana Visa application process and trying to work out whether we even wanted to become an officially registered charity.
This year our Ghana project has supplied…
2 amazing football tournaments (including girls and boys)
800 meals of chicken and rice
1065 litres of clean drinking water
760 “goodie bags” of essential hygiene and education supplies; and,
520 medical checks (including Malaria tests, de-worming tablets, vitamins and general check-ups)
Whilst we have only been on the ground in Ghana twice in 2017, this year has been about 2 essential things happening behind the scenes:
Creating a proven model that Kicking Off can implement on every one of our projects.
Building a team of amazing people and an infrastructure that will give Kicking Off the opportunity to grow and change lives all over the world.
We have managed both of those things and have been lucky in getting so many talented, clever and passionate people on team Kicking Off that are going to help make all our wildest dreams come true.
For 2018 our key objectives are:
Fully implementing our long term plans at the Ghana project, about which more information will hopefully be released in the first half of 2018.
Finding some new project areas around the world to start running our tournaments.
Finding more corporate partners that will allow us to carry on doing what we want to do.
Creating an incredible Kicking Off brand.
Raising our profile.
Continuing to build our internal team so we can create innovative ways to make Kicking Off better.
Personally, if I look back to the drunk guy in a rocking chair in Canada nearly 2 years ago, it’s been an unbelievable journey already and I can’t wait for 2018. With some of the exciting prospects we have lined up early in the new year, the sky really could be the limit and we could start affecting some real global change.
From me, a huge thank you to everyone who has been involved, supported or shown an interest in 2017 including our new corporate partners – keep watching and I’m sure there are going to be some fireworks in the next year!
